Breast cancer awareness

Checking your breasts or attending a breast screening appointment can save your life. 42,000 women a year are diagnosed with breast cancer in England.

Catching cancer at an early stage can improve chances of survival. Black African women are nearly twice as likely to be diagnosed with late-stage breast cancer as white women.

Studies have shown that uptake for breast screening is lower in Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities. In some groups of women, more cases of cancer are only detected at advanced stages of the disease leading to poorer survival rates.

The first four videos were produced by local students in partnership with South East London Cancer Alliance.
