About us

What we do

Welcome to Cancer Matters Wessex – a resource for everyone in Dorset, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight to find information and support about cancer. The site is developed and supported by local NHS and voluntary sector partners.

We believe Cancer Matters Wessex will be particularly useful to you if you are affected by cancer, as a patient, family member, carer, volunteer or healthcare worker. You will find information about cancer, treatment options, local services and support available whilst living with and beyond cancer.

We hope you will find the information useful and will continue to use the website as it is developed further with new locally relevant content, news and events in your area.

Who we are

Wessex Cancer Alliance, the Dorset Integrated Care System Cancer Programme, and Macmillan Cancer Support collaborated to create the Cancer Matters Wessex website to support everyone affected by cancer in Dorset, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

About Cancer Matters Wessex

Wessex Cancer Alliance

Wessex Cancer Alliance brings together health, social care and other organisations to transform the diagnosis, treatment and care for cancer patients in Hampshire, Dorset and the Isle of Wight.

It is a collaboration of NHS organisations responsible for commissioning and providing services; local councils who commission and provide public health services; charities, community and voluntary organisations; patient representatives and groups and academic organisations.

Dorset Integrated Care System Cancer Programme

The Dorset ICS Cancer Programme is working to prevent cancer within our population, diagnose cancer early, achieve great outcomes, and treat our patients as individuals with personalised and equitable care for all.

Senior healthcare leaders in Dorset, including the NHS Foundation Trusts and Clinical Commissioning Group, agreed to pull together cancer resources to act as one, to bring about transformational change across the Integrated Care System (ICS) and to engage with patients and carers to improve their experience of cancer services.

Our membership includes clinical leads in secondary care, GPs, community nursing services and local authorities as well as representatives from the voluntary sector and charities including Macmillan Cancer Support.

Macmillan Cancer Support

Macmillan helps people with the emotional, practical and financial impact of cancer on their lives.

When most people think of Macmillan, they usually think of Macmillan nurses. But their expert care is only one part of the support we offer. To support everyone living with cancer, we look at the whole picture.

Everything we do is to help people living with cancer live life as fully as they can. In Dorset, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, our allied health professionals (AHPs), nurses, support specialists and services work directly with people with cancer, their families and loved ones every day.

We also aim to keep cancer at the top of the agenda by influencing others and heightening awareness of the issues involved. We raise money to make all our work possible.
