Cancer support centres

Cancer centres are a haven of support and advice for anyone affected by cancer. Wessex is fortunate to have a number of cancer centres across the region. You can read about each of them on this page, or watch the video for more information.

Most cancer centres are led by a mix of volunteers and trained professionals, and can provide:

  • counselling
  • complementary therapies
  • help with filling in forms
  • help understanding your diagnosis or treatment

You can visit as many of the Cancer Centres as you like and there is no limit to how many times you can visit.

If you would like to tell us about your visit to any of our Cancer Centres, please use the Contact Us form on this website

Wessex Cancer Support

Wessex Cancer Support provides free and local emotional support to anyone affected by cancer in Hampshire, Dorset and Isle of Wight. Clients may have cancer themselves, be adjusting to life after cancer, supporting someone with cancer, or bereaved.

Through its four cancer Support Centres in Chandler’s Ford, Bournemouth, Hythe and Newport, the charity offers a drop-in service, professional counselling, complementary therapies, activities and support groups. It has recently launched an online support service for anyone who can’t access a physical support centre.

It runs services in the heart of the community, including popular Sing for Life choirs and transport on its Daisy Buses to help Isle of Wight patients get to their hospital appointments on the mainland.

Natalie, a client of Wessex Cancer Support’s Bournemouth cancer Support Centre, says:

“At Wessex Cancer Trust I’m simply Natalie and I feel heard. I’m not just a statistic of my type of cancer or a sticker on a blood form. The charity’s supported me at so many stages of my cancer journey. I want to shout from the rooftops that it’s ok to ask for support if you need it.”

Wessex Cancer Support’s ambition is a future where everyone affected by cancer receives the support that empowers them to live well with and beyond cancer.
