Preparing for prostate radiotherapy treatment

These videos have been produced by University Hospitals Dorset to help you prepare for your prostate radiotherapy treatment.

Your should have a letter from your cancer care team explaining how to prepare for your CT scan. If you do not, contact the hospital where you had your appointment. Visit our local hospitals page to find contact details.

Please watch all three videos, and bookmark this page to come back to you if you need a reminder.

Part 1 – Pre-treatment and preparation

In this video you will be introduced to the radiotherapy team. They explain why it is so important that you prepare correctly for your CT planning scan.

If you do not follow the instructions you are given, you will be sent home from your appointment and it will be rearranged.

You will receive a letter before your appointment telling you to drink 2 litres of water every day for 5 days before your scan.

When you arrive for your CT planning scan there are more steps to follow. Please watch the video carefully and contact your care team if you have any questions.

This video also shows you what the CT scanner looks like, so you know what to expect when you arrive.

Part 2 – Treatment

In this video you can see how your radiotherapy treatment will be given, so you know what to expect when you arrive each day.

You will be contacted before your first treatment appointment and told how to prepare. This will be similar to the steps taken before your planning scan, and it is very important that you follow the instructions.

Part 3 – Support Services

In this short video the team tell you what to expect after your treatment and your follow-up care.

You will get details about your next appointment, and a chance to ask questions about the side effects of treatment.
